Frank: My Last Cheeseburger

A lot of people have been askign for that at the library and I've been intrigued. I think I'm going to have to read it now. These are all questions I been pondering lately too.

i worry that we have poisoned the planet at times. it makes you wonder how our food is raised and grown, especially with people who have gotten e-coli and hepatitis from veggies.

Change is hard. Do it slow. I am still trying to undo bad eating habits.

I have'nt had a soda in like 4 years and have also made the switch to 1% milk. I've been trying to use organic products as much as possible in the hopes that they are at least chemical free. Good luck in staying away from the burgers. I know how much you love them.

Moni, it's a powerful read. And I ripped through it...quick. I want to go over it again.

Pinky Bear, you're right. We have to be cautious all over. Eating veggies won't be the cure...eating good and healthy food will.

Tuna, you know more than anyone that I love burgers. I had them every time we went to Mickey Finns...and lots of other times. Yes, I like the chemical free thing...that's what I got most out of The Omnivore's Dilemma. It's scary to think what we can put in our bodies without thinking about it.

Hey, Tuna, one more thing. You should write a blog - The Flying Tuna. It could be bicycling related. That would be fun.

We all need a Shelly in our lives! I am sure you will be all the better for less red meat. I think I shall choose to remain blissfully ignorant for the time beimg.

Francis (sorry I could not resist that),

I am with you on all of this; but no caffeine? My god man there are certain things in life one can not do with out: air, water, and coffee! I could go years with out a burger -- even decades, but I fear I'd fade away with out my java.

    Anyway good for you.

Meh. I was a vegetarian for 7 years. To save the planet. To be healthy. Then one day, I can haz cheezburger? It was all over. I don't believe that humans can save themselves. We're doomed. Might as well be an epicurean and enjoy the short days we have on this earth. Let's party!

(This is, of course, partial sarcasm. While I do love me a good burger, beef is evil. As is factory farming. But really, so is driving a car, living in a big house and buying cheap shit from China. Ya can't do it all. I read "Fast Food Nation", but I'm done feeling guilty.)

Suicide bombers got nothing on you man.

Bill, it's my last ounce of discipline. LOL.

Mark, you make a good point. This is my little concession. I don't want anyone to feel guilty...it's just that I eat burgers in excess.

Pax, if you're Catholic and Italian (or Irish) you can call me Francis. You get a pass. ;-) I was surprised that it too two weeks to purge caffeine...and I had a headache every single day...all day.

Sarcasmom, yep, good pointers help. And Sheryl has been moving me along the path to health...but she's rolling a big stone.

Wow, giving up burgers is a big step for most Americans. More will power to you, Frank! I think I will read the book, too. I've been trying to eat vegetarian about 90% of the time. This information might give me the push I need to give up meat altogether.
    Thanks for the enlightening post.

Mark, man, wow. That's some kind of funny timing. I think I'll avoid that.

Jess, good for you. That book is a good read...I need to just eat healthier in general, and this is one tiny step in the right direction for me. Cheers!

Well, I have to agree with Pax. Caffeine is like air. I need it or someone could be injured. I am not giving up beef yet. I usually buy beef from Trader Joe's which is supposed to be additive free, yada yada yada.
