I don't a whole lot about jazz either. I just know that I love the sexy sound of it.

Like many broad categories there are several musical forms that all claim to be jazz and within each form a million variations. I liken "smooth jazz" to getting a lobotomy. It is synthesized crap--though crap with a large following. Dixieland is fun but in limited quantities and mostly when in NOLA. Big band music has its place. It can be great but rarely personal. That is why I like smaller groups from trios to sextets. Not much a fan of be bop. I don't like the sounds to be strained. Hear the individual notes, the blending of sounds and the recognizable melodies that are taken to new and different places by the best of the improvisers. Hot up tempo or slow and cool. That is good music. not that I feel stongly about jazz. I just like how the word sounds. Makes my tongue buzz.
